A social networking service is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, who, for example, share interests and/or activities. A social network service consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. Most social network services are web-based and provide means for users to interact over the Internet, such as e-mail andinstant messaging. Online community services are sometimes considered as a social network service, though in a broader sense, social network service usually means an individual-centered service whereas online community services are group-centered. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks.

The social networking site started during 1995, the year which the world used Theglobe.com website. It was followed by Tripod.com and Classmates.com which it uses links to follow email addresses.In the late 1990's, user profiles were the main attraction in a social networking site. It was followed by compiling "friends" in the friends list.It begun to flourish with the emergence of SixDegrees.com in 1997. It was followed by Makeoutclub.com in 2000 and Friendster.com in 2002 which later became the internet mainstream. Later, Friendster was followed by Myspace, Linkedln and finally Bebo. Now, Facebook and Google+ are the mainstreams of the net followed by Twitter and Multiply.

Today, social networking sites are most widely used all over the world. The question is, are the users follow the proper netiquette? I don't think so. Social Networking Services enable us to see old and long lost friends, build businesses, communicate with others and most especially, make relationships. Today, when immorality emerge, most of the users doesn't observe the proper netiquette.Last month, Facebook was infected with viral post which contains nude and pornographic contents but it was stopped when a hoax statement of Mark Zuckerberg was released. Farther than that, all users nationwide reacted upon the "blame" but it was found that it wasn't true according to my research (http://definitelyfilipino.com/blog/2011/11/18/facebook-ceo-blames-porn-attack-on-the-philippines/).
What causes this internet troubles? Simple, Lack of discipline, proper netiquette and let's include the abused "Freedom of Expression". It's alright to express your feelings and emotions on the net or to your site but it should be limited. We are entitled to have this right but we should be responsible enough and make sure that others wont get hurt. Just like the ad says, "Think before you click!" by GMA news channel, we should be aware and let's not abuse our right. Real Life is different from the Virtual Life, so Be Careful!!!!
